On August 5, I was 20-weeks pregnant. My husband and I went to have an ultrasound done to determine the sex of our baby. We found out that we were having a boy. The tech then realized that I was in pre-term labor. I was sent immediately to the hospital and put on strict bed rest, medication to stop labor and my bed was tilted back to where my head was down and feet were up.

On August 19, labor started up again. Medication did not stop it. Throughout that night and through the next morning, I contracted and fully dialated alone. My husband is a truck driver and was gone on a run. Jacob Silas Blassingame was born on August 20 at 10:11 a.m. weighing 1 pound, 4 ounces. My husband's company flew him home so he could meet and say goodbye to his son.

Jacob put up a good fight. He survived for 32 hours and passed away in our arms. Not a moment goes by that I don't think about him.

When you lose a child, especially one that no one else even got to meet, you worry that they will be forgotten. I fight the constant urge to run up to strangers and tell them about Jacob. That he is real, that he was here, that he was special and he deserved better than what this world gave him.
