Werner Park home heavily damaged in fire

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Fire heavily damaged a home in Shreveport's Werner Park neighborhood Monday night.

Firefighters were called to the one-story wood-framed home in the 2700 block of Malcom St. just before 9 p.m. and arrived to find flames coming out of the front windows and heavy black smoke.

Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control by 9:20 with what SFD Chief Scott Wolverton describes as "an aggressive offensive fire attack."

Wolverton says the homeowner was at a neighbor's home nearby when he was notified by another neighbor that his home was on fire.  He told firefighters that the first place he saw fire in the home was in the front room where he was using a space heater.  However, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
