Upshur Co. business robbed at gunpoint, store clerk assaulted

An East Texas woman was assaulted during an armed robbery Saturday night in Upshur County. It happened in the 2000 block of Highway 259 in New Diana.

We spoke with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, and they say they believe the suspect robbed another person just a short time later.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man who robbed the Dollar General Store in New Diana. He showed the clerk a firearm and demanded money, but he also assaulted her.

“A laceration to her head. He was armed with a dark colored firearm and actually struck her in the head with the firearm,” Said Fitzgerald.

The robbery and assault was recorded by surveillance cameras.

“After getting the money and assaulting one of the store clerks there he left the scene on foot southbound,” Fitzgerald stated.

Twenty minutes later near the Diana Apartments behind a Phillip’s 66 on Highway 259, a man was in the parking lot and had a similar encounter.

“He was walking to another store when we believe what was the same suspect robbed him at gunpoint also and took the money that he had on him,” Fitzgerald added.

The suspect had covered his face with a towel, but the victims could see he was a white male with blue eyes.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5’8” to 5’10” with a slender build. He was wearing a camo shirt with light colored jeans and had light blue eyes.
