MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas teenager is receiving treatment at a Dallas hospital after suffering complications with the flu.

According to a family member, 14-year-old Jennings Neel of Marshall felt ill the day after Christmas and went to the doctor, where she tested positive for the flu.

Initially, Neel was reportedly sent home with medication, but her health continued to deteriorate.

The Tatum High School freshman was airlifted from the Marshall hospital on Saturday, December 28th and is now at Children's Medical Center in Dallas where she is said to be in critical condition.

There is a website set up for Neel so friends and family can stay up to date on her condition.

According to that site, she has acute pneumonia as a complication from having the flu.

Doctors have determined she needs to be placed on a lung bypass to help her body fight the infection.

Recent journal entrees on this site say that Neel has opened her eyes and can slightly squeeze her family members' hands when asked.

Now, loved ones are asking for prayers for her kidneys so she will not have to be put on dialysis.

They are also asking people to pray for the hospital staff caring for Neel.
