A Delta County Game Warden is recovering in the hospital after being shot in what officials believe to be a hunting accident early Sunday evening.
Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith tells KLTV 7 that Game Warden Chris Fried is stable after being shot in the chest while he was bow hunting. It happened around 6:00 p.m. at the Cooper Wildlife Management Area, in between Paris and Sulphur Springs. Fried was flown to Hopkins County Memorial, where he was listed as stable before he was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital. There's no word on his exact condition at this time.
Sheriff Smith says at this time they do not believe the shooting was intentional, but officials will continue interviewing people hunting in the area.
Sheriff Smith says Fried was off duty at the time of the shooting.
