Authorities are now one step closer to solving a string of arsons in Smith County.
Officials believe the fires are related. Over the past year, there have been 4 fires in Smith County: two on County Road 26, one on County Road 398, and another on County Road 223. Found at all of the abandoned homes, were drug paraphernalia and chemicals used to make methamphetamines.
Other common links between the fires, all were reported early in the morning around two or three AM, and each of them started in the back of the homes. Fire marshals say these fires put local residents and firefighters in danger.
"They go in unsuspecting that these are chemical fires. The firefighters are going in to save lives and property. If there are chemicals still in and around the home, it could flash up on them and cost them their lives or cause them danger," says Marilynn Wilson, Assistant Fire Marshal of Smith County.
Officials say they have five main suspects. If you have any information about any of these fires, call the Smith County Fire Marshall's Office.
