School bus driver receives citation in Athens crash

Posted: Updated:

Police have released the crash report for the school bus wreck that sent dozens of students to the hospital just two weeks ago.

That crash report reveals one of the school bus drivers has now received a citation in the wreck.

Parents leaving ETMC Athens the night of the crash told KLTV that the driver of the back bus had been turned around, telling the kids to be quiet when she slammed into the bus in front of her.

None of those details are included in the police report, but investigators have determined that the front bus had slowed down, waiting for a car ahead of it to turn off S. Palestine St. The report does not include what leads up to the moment of impact, other than stating that the driver of the back bus failed to control her speed, in addition to conducting faulty evasive action that led her to drive the bus off the roadway and crash into an additional three parked cars.

The school district previously said no disciplinary actions would be taken against either driver and that both drivers would be back on their routes once they had recovered. Athens ISD was not available for comment Thursday, due to the district being closed for the holidays.
