Longview homicide investigation doesn't surprise neighbors

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An investigation is underway in Longview Monday after a body was found this morning. Police responded to a call about a dead body just after 7:00 a.m. in the 1100 block of Sabine Street.

Upon arrival, they discovered a man's body. Officials tell us they are investigating this as a homicide.

It happened in a heavily wooded area. Train tracks on one side, a new trailer park on the other, and an oil well where a car sat unattended Monday morning. That's when a passerby came across the body.

"We believe this was a homicide, but in the beginning it came in as a dead body call," Longview PIO Kristie Brian said.
Officer Brian tells us police found a male body lying next to a car near an oil well. They suspect he was killed overnight, but didn't say how.

"We, as always, treat dead bodies as homicides and began an investigation," she said.

Neighbors tell us this isn't an unfamiliar scene. Matthew Young grew up on Sabine Street and most of his family lives around here, too.

"Well, I'd like to say that it doesn't happen that often, but actually, not even a month ago a block from the location where a murder is being investigated now, there was actually a body that was found," Young said.

That person was a female, police say, found just one block away from the one Monday. That case is also still under investigation and the cause of death has not yet been determined.

"It's kind of scary to think that there's somebody that killed these people and they're not caught yet," he said. "It does kind of make you nervous, you know, that they're still out there."

Police say there is no connection between the two incidents. Officials tell us residents at a nearby trailer park say they didn't hear or see anything.

"I'd like to see that whoever this was is definitely brought to justice," Young said.

Police are asking for the public's help in doing just that. If anyone has information on this case they are asked to contact Longview Police Department at 903-237-1199. If the tipster wishes to remain anonymous they can contact Gregg County Crimestoppers at 903-236-7867.
