Two chicken houses destroyed in Pittsburg fire

Posted: Updated:
PITTSBURG, TX (KLTV) -

Fire crews in Pittsburg spent an hour and half battling a blaze at an abandoned Pilgrims Pride chicken facility today.

According to Pittsburg fire officials, the call came in around 2:30 this afternoon. The fire was under control by 4 pm.

Fire Chief Carl Cravey said some workers were using a cutting torch which sparked a grass fire, Cravey said, and that spread to two old chicken houses. The two-story structures, which were both empty, were destroyed.

The property previously was a farm for Pilgrim's Pride, but has been shut down for several years. No injuries occurred as a result of the fire.
