Freestore Foodbank provides thousands with holiday meal

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -

More than 17,000 people received food from the Freestore Foodbank to help with their holiday meal.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 20 through Monday, the Freestore Foodbank provided 8,513 households with a box of food as part of its annual December Holiday Food Distribution. Organizers said this effort helped a total of 17,864 individuals.

Each box contained canned vegetables, fruit, cranberry or pumpkin, stuffing or rice, onions, potatoes, apples, macaroni and cheese, and brownie mix or another dessert. Each household also received either a chicken or turkey.

The food drive was made possible by donors and more than 600 volunteers. The food was delivered through at the Freestore Foodbank Customer Connection Center on E. Liberty Street in Over-the-Rhine.

During the 2013 Thanksgiving and December Holiday Food Distributions combined, the Freestore Foodbank provided holiday meal food to help 43,289 individuals.

The Freestore Foodbank is one of Ohio's largest food banks, distributing more than 19 million meals annually through a network of partner agencies in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
