Denver City man charged with murder of 2-year-old girl

Posted: Updated:

A Denver City man remains in jail charged with the murder of a 2-year-old girl.

Authorities arrested Richard Jeffery Carr on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Denver City Police were notified when the toddler's body was found around 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

After a short investigation, Jeffery Carr was taken into custody on a warrant for murder. Carr is currently being held in the Yoakum County Jail in Plains.

His bond has been set at $1,000,000.

The Yoakum County DA's office and the Texas Rangers assisted in the investigation.

Police had issued a statement that said they were uncertain what relation Carr had to the girl, but the girl's mother posted on social media that Carr was her boyfriend and that they had been dating for the last year.

The young girl's mother said Carr was wonderful to her girls and took them in as his own.

The District Attorney's office issued a statement to KCBD saying:

"The DA's office was made aware of continuing interaction with various parties and the Texas Rangers were asked to assist in providing substantial support to the Denver City Police with results that ended in determination of a suspect."

Investigators have not released any information about how the girl died, her name or her relation to the suspect.

An autopsy of the child was scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23.

The young girl's mother posted on her Facebook that the District Attorney contacted her and asked her not to give any more information over Social Media.
