RUSK, TX (KLTV) -

A new Cherokee County attorney was appointed Thursday morning after a vacancy was created following an investigation that forced a county judge to resign last week.

Officials unanimously voted to appoint Rusk attorney Dana Young as the Cherokee County Attorney during a public meeting in commissioner's court today.

That vacancy was created last week, when former county attorney Kelley Peacock was selected to fill the County Court at Law position. All of the movement comes on the heels of an investigation into former County Court at Law Judge Craig Fletcher, who resigned from the role last week.

Following her appointment, Young said she believes she has the right credentials to fill her new role.

"I think we can all move forward and keep doing a good job to maintain the good reputation of Cherokee County," Young said.

Young added that she not only intends to serve out the remainder of the current term, but she will also run for the position during the upcoming elections.
