7 from 7: Stories for your Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

Good afternoon! We hope you're enjoying your day.

Here are some stories we think you'll want to check out this afternoon:

1. We have a heartwarming story out of Lindale today; a little girl got a happy holiday surprise this morning when the daddy she hadn't seen in over a year showed up at her school, dressed in the Lindale Eagles mascot costume! See the story of Emmaleigh and her dad, Stephen here.

2. An East Texas church will hold a celebration of the life of legendary country star Ray Price, who passed away this week after a battle with cancer. The memorial service will take place Saturday in Mount Pleasant at First Baptist Church. Details here.

3. The new releases available this week include a surprise addition - the Beatles. Previously unreleased songs recorded by the Beatles 50 years ago went on sale Tuesday on iTunes. Find out more here.

4. With fewer than 10 days until Christmas, many are scrambling to finish – or start shopping. On Wednesday, Dec. 18, hundreds of retailers will be participating in Free Shipping Day to help you save some holiday cash. More than 900 merchants are offering free shipping for the day – with no minimum order requirement. And not only are you getting free delivery, but you're also guaranteed to receive the packages by Christmas Eve.

5. Consumers anxious over tight insurance deadlines and lingering computer problems during the holidays will get extra time to pay their premiums under President Barack Obama's health care law, insurers announced Wednesday. The board of the industry's biggest trade group said consumers who select a plan by Dec. 23 will now have until Jan. 10 to pay their first month's premium. That's 10 extra days beyond a New Year's Eve deadline set by the government.

6. A California woman believes a hospital is trying to cover up what happened to her daughter after the 13-year-old girl became brain dead after complications with a tonsillectomy. She says no one called the doctor...until it was too late.

7. It's warmer today, but we are far from finished with "Old Man Winter." Thankfully, many folks have donated to the Salvation Army blanket drive, and our Summer Dashe spoke with Salvation Army reps today to find out how many were donated for those in need. Join her for that on Eat Texas News at 6! And please, continue donating to Salvation Army and other groups who need help this winter as they provide for those who need a hand up.

Here's the link to our livestream on KLTV.com where we'll be live at 4, 5 and 6.

We'll see you soon!
