ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A man and woman are facing charges after an attempted shoplifting that turned violent, police said.

According to the report from Asheville Police Department, the two were at the KMart on Brevard Road Sunday evening when they were approached by store personnel, accused of attempting to shoplift items from the store.

Store personnel told police that, after being approached, a fight ensued. Police reported one of the store employees was bitten during the altercation, which spilled over into the store's parking lot.

Police said during the fight, the man, identified by police as William Burden, 25, also pulled out a gun while attempting to leave. The woman identified by police as Carmen Kincaid, 23, then allegedly grabbed the gun and ran from the scene.

Burden and Kincaid were eventually taken into custody. Police said they also had an 8-month-old child with them during the incident, who is currently in custody of the Dept. of Social Services.

Asheville police said they also discovered the car the couple was riding in was stolen from Georgia and had a large amount of jewelry inside.

Burden is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, assault inflicting serious injury, larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and child abuse. He's currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center on $35,000 bond.
