Mentor program in Tyler for middle school boys teaches life lessons

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

It was no girls allowed today at A.T. Stewart Middle School for a special male mentorship program.

John Tyler High School athletes stopped by to play basketball with the middle school boys.

They also heard from The Blaze's DJ Juice and Robert E. Lee head football coach, Darrell Piske .

Piske spoke about hardships growing up and how to aim for success no matter what your family circumstances are.

"It's fun because I get to see some high schoolers from John Tyler that we look up to," Tyrell Jones, a middle school student, said.

The theme for today was survival, so they also went through an obstacle course to learn team building exercises.
