LINDALE, TX (KLTV) -

Authorities have ended the manhunt for a missing suspect Thursday night, after an hours-long search came up empty.

Smith County Precinct Five Constable Ken Bibby tells KLTV 7 that five deputy constables, two Smith County deputies, and officers from the Lindale Police Department were involved in the search.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, allegedly stole from the Lindale Walmart , then left in a stolen vehicle, hitting cars as he drove through the parking lot. The man then wrecked the vehicle before abandoning it near County Road 4200 in a wooded area off of Jim Hogg Road. The suspect left the scene on foot.

Deputies with K9 units searched the area off of Jim Hogg Road for the suspect, and Constable Bibby says that a helicopter equipped with infrared search capability was called to the area. But the search was unsuccessful.

The search is expected to continue on Friday.

If you see this man, you are urged to call 911 immediately.
