Longview PD says officer not charged with crime in drug raid

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A tip led to a drug raid at an apartment that was being rented to an East Texas police officer.

The officer's roommate, 27-year old Donald Spencer, was arrested Tuesday on possession of marijuana charges at the Autumnwood Apartments.

Right now, the officer Spencer lived with has not been charged with any crime, but he has been placed on administrative leave.

A search warrant affidavit Justice of the Peace Arthur Forts' office show that investigators had probable cause to raid an Autumnwood apartment on suspicion of drug activity. This was the apartment shared by a police officer.

"CODE executed a warrant at the Autumnwood Apartments on Tuesday. They did find some drug paraphernalia as well as some other contraband inside the apartment," says Longview police officer Kristie Brian.

What led to this search warrant being issued was an observant citizen at the apartments.

An informant told police that Donald Spencer was selling marijuana from the residence, and that he had stated that more was available, implying more deliveries.

"We received information, and acted on that information," Brian says.

Investigators say an amount of marijuana was confiscated during the search along with different items of drug related paraphernalia. What that paraphernalia was and who it belonged to has not been released.

Spencer was arrested for marijuana possession, and the officer in question did reside with Spencer at the apartment. That officer is under investigation in this case but has not been arrested or charged with any crime.

"Standard practice, anytime an officer is under investigation, is they are placed on administrative leave. Narcotics unit, CODE unit does their investigation and then we will do the internal investigation," Brian says.

The Longview Police Department says the officer will stay on paid leave until the investigation is complete.

Again, he has not been charged with anything at this time.
