GILMER, TX (KLTV) -

Fire units have completely extinguished a fire at T&S Storage on Wood Street in Gilmer that started before noon Thursday. The Upshur County Fire Marshal is on his way to  officially determine what may have sparked the blaze. Fire fighters on scene believe a blow torch being used by workers at the building may have caused the fire.

The building's owner told KLTV that he has owned the property for the past five years. He says that five people were storing items inside the building when the fire started. The owner does have insurance on the building but says those storing items in the facility are responsible for their belongings. The building was constructed in the 1950s.

Southbound traffic on Highway 271 (Wood Street) is currently being rerouted. Please be advised if traveling the area.

According to witnesses, heavy smoke was seen coming from the building as crews worked to extinguish the blaze. Flames shot from the front of the building as crews tried to access the attic.

A ladder truck from the Longview Fire Department was brought to the scene to access the attic.

The owner of the business next to the storage facility reported around 11:15 a.m. that her building had filled with smoke. She says fire officials told her to move U-Hauls stored near her business.

Gilmer and Longview Fire Departments responded to the fire. They were joined by Pritchett, Bettie, East Mountain and Harmony Volunteer Fire Departments.
