ATHENS, TX (KLTV) -

Athens police officers said Athens ISD school bus number 14 rear-ended bus number 13, and drove onto a businesses property, hitting three employee vehicles before smashing into a pole.

"When I pulled up and seen my car and I was like what happened? My car, what happened?," said Chelsea Perry, who works at Eastern Texas Pathology Laboratories.

"I pulled up and parked and that's when I seen them getting all the kids off the bus," Perry said.

Perry said she put her medical training to use.

"I went over and assisted, just startled there were a few bloody noses," she said.

Perry said she was not the only one who was there to help.

"There were a lot of people lined down the road that stopped, they were grabbing blankets out of the car for the kids and a couple of the companies over the grabbed blankets," she said.

Rae Priestley, who works for South Place Skilled Nursing Facility, located near the crash site, was one of the people handing out those blankets.

"I ended up gathering some blankets and we took them to the kids. The kids were shaken up,"  Priestley said.

She said businesses alongside South Palestine Street worked together to take care of the children until transportation arrived to take them to the hospital.

"They brought out tissues, paper towels, gauze different things like that," Priestley said.

A community effort to help their smallest citizens.
