Boil advisory lifted, detour continues on Barksdale Blvd.

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

A boil water advisory issued for part of South Bossier has been lifted, but part of Barksdale Boulevard remains closed for repairs after a water main break on Wednesday.

The advisory was issued after a traffic accident caused a water main break Wednesday morning when a car ran into a fire hydrant at the corner of Barksdale Boulevard and Rossie Lee Drive.

Residents and businesses from Panther Drive/Walker Place to the southern city limit,  including Curtis Elementary and Parkway High School, were advised to boil their water before drinking it or cooking with it.

On Thursday, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has rescinded the boil advisory for south Bossier City after a water test came back negative for contaminants.

The break caused a large amount of water to flow from the broken line and erode portions underneath the northbound lanes of Barksdale Boulevard in the immediate area.

Both northbound lanes of Barksdale Boulevard are closed, and the southbound lanes of Barksdale Boulevard will accommodate one lane of northbound traffic and one lane of southbound traffic.

The water main itself has been repaired and a new hydrant installed, and repairs have been the water main break.  Those lanes will remain closed while newly poured concrete cures.

The city anticipates reopening the northbound lanes sometime this weekend.
