Forgotten box holds valuable memories for lost owner

An East Texas woman has spent the last year searching for the owner of a box full of photographs and trinkets. The box was left behind in a Dallas apartment when the tenant moved out in January and the apartment manager, Debra Wear, kept the box when she moved to East Texas because the content was so valuable. Now, she’s hoping someone will recognize these items and reclaim a box full of precious memories.

When Wear opened this forgotten box in the closet of an empty apartment, she thought she’d be making a trip to the trash.

“I’ve been apartment managers for so long people will leave pictures of old boyfriends or ex-husbands, but then when I looked to see what it was I was just kind of heartbroken that she had left it,” Wear said as she looked through the box in her living room.

Looking through pictures and albums something else caught her eye that day.

“And then when I saw that it was her daughter, and then when I read the obituary and things, and the newspaper clipping, I just, I couldn’t ever really forget about it,” she said.

The box belonged to a woman named Lisa whose 8-year-old daughter, Laura Pruiett, was killed in a car accident in 2003.

“I tried to call every emergency contact and everybody I knew that even knew her and then I never could find her,” she said.

She even tried Lisa’s mother who she thought lived in Tyler, but had no luck.

“You know maybe she tried to find me, too, or maybe she didn’t even know that we saved it,” she said.

The box is filled with dolls, photographs, even a lock of the little girl’s hair from her first haircut.

“Christmas is so bittersweet, but we need to have our loved ones with us,” she said, “and it just needs to be reunited with her mother… because I feel like the box is not at peace, I don’t know if that makes any sense.”

She says she’ll keep looking and hoping these memories find their rightful place, “if we don’t find her I’ll keep it forever, I mean it’s just not something you can throw away.”

Wear tells us the woman’s last name could be Fox and she has two teenage sons. The little girl was a third grader at Como-Pickton School at the time of the accident.

Ghost stories and haunted houses have long been a popular past time, but just how much truth is there to the legends? "As Shakespeare said there are more things in heaven and earth then are in your books,” says Big Foot Expert Jeff Hurley. “There are things we don't understand." At the April 21, Paranormal Conference, experts in the subject came together to further explore their theories.
