Overweight Jacksonville woman inspires runners

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

In Nacogdoches there were over 225 runners and walkers tolerating the cold at Saturday's Jingle Bell 5k. It's a Nine Flags Christmas Festival event. No participant was more inspirational than Lauren LaFleur of Jacksonville.

Dressed in sweats and gloves, the extremely overweight woman joined slim, fit runners. However, it was her smile that people noticed.

"June 3 I began losing weight and exercising. I've lost 80 pounds, a little more than 80 pounds in the last six months," said LaFluer. "And back in July when I was feeling really discouraged, felt like I wouldn't be able to do this, I decided to register for this 5k. It's my first one. hopefully, the first of many. And that's my story," LaFluer said, followed by a cheerful laugh.

Lauren ended up finishing the 3k walk, rather than the 5k. She is looking forward to having the stamina to handle the 5k eventually. Everyone around her wished her the best of luck.
