Electric crews are stocking up their trucks, packing heaters and sleeping bags alongside the necessities.

"We've been preparing for this now for about the last two days and we feel like we've got a good plan in place," said Southwestern Electric Power Company's Manager of External Affairs, Keith Honey.

Honey said they have line crew personnel from out-of-state on standby.

"We have marshaled 350 outside resources in addition to our normal crews," said Honey.

Oncor said they too have called in extra resources, crews who are already on their way.

"I've been with our company over 40 years, and it's the first time I've ever known us to call in additional resources this far in advance of a storm. Usually, we wait until a storm hits, see what's happened, see where we need them and start bringing crews in. We actually have crews that are headed this way from Mississippi, Alabama and Florida," said Oncor's East Region Customer Operations Manager, Charles Hill.

That is not the only step they are taking.

"The other thing that we've done that I've never seen us do before is we've canceled all of our vacation for all of our employees through early next week," Hill said.

A new SWEPCO program might come in handy if the weather gets bad.

"We've just started a pretty extensive vegetation management program, tree trimming program, so we've got a lot of extra tree trimming resources available to us right now," Honey said.

Hundreds of East Texans and out-of-state crew are ready to tackle whatever comes their way, however, they recommend their customers also take steps to prepare themselves just in case this winter weather affects their area.

For Oncor customers, you can register for information by sending REG to 66267.
