7 from 7: Stories for your wintry Thursday

Good afternoon! We hope you are having a great day and are getting prepared for the winter-like weather that we will be dealing with for the next week or so.

Here is a "care package" of stories that we hope will help you as you face "Old Man Winter":

1. First, make sure that you are abreast of the latest watches and warnings in East Texas so you'll know what to expect from this winter storm. Click here for the watches and warnings page on our website.  Also, be sure to join Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto on East Texas News and 4, 5 and 6 for the latest updates and warnings. Here's what he's telling us right now.

2. We have a school closings list for you that we are updating with new information as schools call it in. Click here for the closings/delays list.  We are already adding schools which are telling us today they will be delaying school opening tomorrow morning, so stay tuned.

3. If you'd like to be alerted about school closings right on your mobile device via text message, click here to sign up for that free service on our website. It couldn't be easier! This is helpful in the event that your electricity goes out and you can't watch tv. Just remember to keep your phone charged up in advance of the storm, for safety's sake.

4. There have been several cancellations or changes in date of Christmas parades that were scheduled for tonight through Saturday. Click here to see the updated list.

5. Just in case you would like to make something hearty and warm for yourself and your family during the wintry mix, click here to see our list of comfort food recipes; today just happens to be National Comfort Food Day!

6. Here's a helpful list of tips to help protect your pets during cold weather. Don't let your pet suffer! Pets Fur People in Tyler shared some good information at this link.

7. If you haven't yet done so, this would be a GREAT time to download our news and weather apps. Just in case your power goes out, you can check us out on your phone and get the latest weather and closings info on our android and iPhone apps. We even stream our news shows live on our news app!

Here is a page to help guide you through the download, or you can just visit your phone's app store and search for KLTV!

Click here to watch our news live on KLTV.com at 4, 5 and 6 this afternoon. We're here for you!

See you soon!
