After months of controversy, Edgewood City Council takes action

Posted: Updated:
EDGEWOOD, TX (KLTV) -

Earlier this year, controversy surrounded the City of Edgewood after the police chief unexpectedly fired a respected part-time police officer.

Edgewood City Council was scheduled to discuss the officer's termination at a city council meeting earlier this year, but at the meeting, the mayor would not address that item pending litigation. Despite the mayor's decision to wait on addressing the item, residents spoke out during the public comment period of the meeting.

Some residents said that the officer's unexpected termination was just one of many decisions made by Police Chief Henry Askew that disappointed them. Some residents even asking for the chief to be replaced, however other attendees spoke highly of the chief.

On Wednesday, Edgewood city officials confirmed they would take no action regarding their police chief, but they did offer to rehire the terminated part-time police officer.

Officials said the former officer accepted the offer and came in on Wednesday to sign the paperwork.
