Former National League M-V-P and admitted steroid user Ken Caminiti has died at age 41. His agent says Caminiti suffered a heart attack in the New York borough of the Bronx on Sunday.
The death comes five days after he admitted in court that he violated his probation by testing positive for cocaine last month. Caminiti already was on probation after he was arrested with two others on drug charges in November 2001.
Caminiti was the M-V-P while with the San Diego Padres in 1996. He was a spring training instructor for the Padres this past season.
Caminiti said two years ago that he thought half the players in the big leagues were using steroids -- and that he had used them during his M-V-P season.
The city medical examiner's office says an autopsy will be performed on Monday.
