MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) -
An East Texas man remains behind bars charged with killing his wife and new details about the murder have been revealed in the arrest affidavit, which was obtained on Tuesday afternoon from Harrison County authorities.
According to the arrest affidavit, on Sunday morning at approximately 11:15, Marshall police officers responded to the Baymont Inn and Suites in Marshall after receiving a call about a possible homicide. When police arrived, they found two children in the lobby who told officers that they believed their father had killed their mother.
Officers obtained a room key from the desk clerk and entered one of the hotel rooms, where they found the blood-covered body of Kari Rene Dunn lying between the bathtub and the wall. Dunn had multiple cut wounds on her face, neck and abdomen.
Marshall police interviewed a guest at the hotel (whose identity is being withheld) who told police that between 10 and 11 a.m. on Sunday morning, the guest heard children screaming in the hallway. When the guest came out of their room, the guest found three children in the hall. One of the children told the guest, "I think my dad is killing my mom!"
The guest then went to the children's room, where the guest began beating on the door. A man opened the door and told the guest that he would be out in a minute. The man then exited the door and told the children, "Come on, come on." The man grabbed the smallest female child and exited the hotel.
On Monday, Brad Allen Dunn, 35, of Longview, was arraigned on charges of murder and evading arrest in the death of Kari Dunn. Police say after Dunn killed his wife, he then fled the scene with 4-year-old daughter, prompting an Amber Alert to be issued.
Dunn was arrested shortly after by Cass County authorities.
"A good citizen responded to the Amber Alert. She was behind the vehicle at the time on US 59," said Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe. "DPS and county patrols were able to get him stopped just inside the city of Linden."
Dunn was transferred from the Cass County Jail to the Harrison County Jail on Tuesday afternoon where he remains on a $5.1 million bond.
