A residence is destroyed and an East Texas man jailed on multiple charges following an altercation in western Harrison County on Monday.

Police responded to a house fire on Farm to Market Road 2208 in Harrison County around 4:20 p.m. and discovered 21-year-old James Cameron standing near an engulfed mobile home. Police say Cameron had a verbal and physical altercation with his stepmother. When he Cameron struck the woman, she retreated to her bedroom, at which point the man allegedly poured cooking oil throughout the residence and ignited gasoline near the back of the home.

The woman was able to flee the residence when she realized it was on fire. She was treated at the scene by medical crews and transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center where she received further treatment for smoke inhalation.

After interviewing witnesses, Cameron was placed under arrest and is being held on charges of assault and arson.
