Many of us know someone who won’t make it home for the holidays because they are in the military. Several students at J.L. Everhart in Longview know first hand.

The entire student body has decided to do something about that by making Christmas cards to send to soldiers. It’s a little piece of home for the holidays- a homemade Christmas card. Each student made a card with a special holiday greeting.

“We wish you joy and peace this holiday season. You have our love and spirit her on the home front. We thank you again from the bottom of our hearts,” said Adriana.

The cards are boxed up and sent off to the Holiday Mail for Heroes program sponsored by the American Red Cross. The cards will be distributed at military bases across the country and overseas.

“I’m sending it off to the soldiers. Some soldiers can’t come home for the holidays,” said fifth grader Daija Molina.

Ashley Jenovai got the ball rolling on the project. It hits home since her husband has been deployed three times, leaving her and the three kids behind.

“While he was gone I was balancing things and taking care of the home and he was just being our hero, so this is something that really, really touches my heart,” Ashley said.

“Dear soldier, thank you for fighting for all of us. Thank you for all the sacrifices you make. I hope you stay safe and have a Merry Christmas,” read Daija.

The cards had to be sent out today to make it to their destination in time for Christmas. In all, around 700 cards will be sent to military personnel all over the world from J.L Everhart right here in East Texas.
