Key vote expected Monday in Atlanta Falcons stadium deal

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Atlanta city council members are expected to vote Monday on a key plan involving the construction of a new football stadium for the Atlanta Falcons.

The community benefits plan gives suggestions of how to spend $30 million to improve poverty-stricken neighborhoods surrounding the site, including Vine City, English Avenue and Castleberry Hill. Those communities will receive $15 million from the Westside tax allocation district and $15 million from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.

The plan must be approved by the council and Mayor Kasim Reed before the city can issue $200 million in bonds for the construction of the stadium.

There's a chance that council will postpone the vote until next month when two newly elected city council members will take office.
