Small business Saturday success

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

In between Black Friday and Cyber Monday there is another day dedicated to holiday sales, and that's Small Business Saturday.

We talked to a couple small businesses in Longview to find out if East Texans are shopped out, or if they're at it again and keeping it local.

East Texans aren't finished yet. They packed parking lots in front of locally-run businesses like Gaudy Me and Games 2 Go.  The customers differ as much as the product, but the stores are alike in at least one respect: locals buying local.

"We have tons of people in our community that support us, and our Tyler location as well. We have people from Shreveport and kind of everywhere who come to shop with us," said Gaudy Me store manager Brianna Clontz

"The community has definitely supported us over the three years we've been open. We really do appreciate that and everything. That's why we do certain things, offer special stuff to give back to the community because of all the support they've given us," Games 2 Go Manager B.J. Nix said.

The people that run these stores are also appreciative of Small Business Saturday that reminds customers to go back, and helps attract new ones. They also use the same inexpensive advertising.

"The only advertising we do is Instagram and Facebook. I'll put stuff up there every day. Any kind of sales that we have we always put up there, but we don't do any advertising other than that," Brianna revealed.

"We post it up on our Facebook page and everything, you know, that it's Small Business Saturday, you know, come out and support local businesses," B.J. stated.

Both shops have strategies.

"All year around we don't mark our merchandise up as much as normal places do, so it's like having a sale all year," Brianna said.

"Whether it's anime, blue-ray, or video game if we don't have it we can definitely get it in here for you," B.J. said.

Games 2 Go sells everything from old and sometimes expensive Nintendo to the latest Wii. Gaudy Me has a pretty wide variety too.

The two stores feel the same way about their customers.

"All the support they've given us, we wouldn't be here without them," B.J. said.

Small Business Saturday may be over, but not small business sales.

Business is booming for Gaudy Me and Games 2 Go. They have both been able to open other stores in surrounding counties.
