East Texans out of their kitchens and into restaurants for Thanksgiving

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Putting together a Thanksgiving dinner is no easy task. From turkeys and hams to pies and sides -- the meal can become quite the production.

However, a lot of East Texans chose to get in the Thanksgiving meal without all the prep and then all of that clean up.

A line that went out the door and around the corner greeted many East Texans who turned to Luby's for their Thanksgiving meal. Luby's to-go was just as packed.

Even the neighboring I-HOP sent their staff over to recruit customers from Luby's ever growing line.

The people in line agreed that a 30 minute wait and $10.99 was a small price to pay for not having to lift a finger and knowing they'd come home to a clean kitchen.

"It's alright to leave somebody else to do the dishes," says Polly Evans.

"Now I don't have to wash dishes," says Polly's husband, Willie.

Polly and Willie are from Kilgore and say Thursday was their first time to join the Thanksgiving restaurant crowds. The pair only had good things to say about what they walked away with, which--  most importantly-- was an afternoon with family.

Not to mention, Willie got his turkey while Polly could leave the turkey behind for something else.

"Liver. I had Liver and onions," says Polly.

With a wide variety of food, East Texans who eat out on Thanksgiving say it's one of the few times where they think heading to a restaurant gets them more for their money, but they also agree it's not about the money... or the food.

"It's more about being with your family and friends and being thankful for whatever God has given us," says Austin Graff.

"This is nice... a lot easier too," says Willie Evans.

Eating out-- a nice easy way to spend time with the ones you love on a holiday where people take time to be thankful for what they have.
