Two victims of medical center stabbing remain hospitalized; vigil planned for Monday

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - One day after an attack at a place of healing, two of the stabbing victims are still in the hospital.

Gail Sandidge, a nurse at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, was killed in the attacks. Four other people were injured. Longview police arrested 22-year-old Kyron Templeton just minutes after the attack. Templeton is charged with one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Wednesday, Longview police confirmed that the stabbings happened on the second floor of the Ambulatory Surgical Center. Police say they are still investigating the exact path the suspect took, but say Templeton began stabbing people in the "day area/pre-op wing and waiting area."

After the stabbing, police say Templeton fled down the main staircase and left the building. Surgeries were rescheduled Tuesday and Wednesday.  Right now, the floor where the incident took place remains empty except for grief counselors who were on hand meet with employees.

One of the victims, Harris Teel Sr. of Gilmer, is listed in critical condition. Melissa Sims of Longview is currently in good condition. Two others, Teresa Allison and Karen Bobo, were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital Tuesday.

Teel's neighbor says Teel raised his sons and daughter with his wife in Gilmer. That neighbor says Teel was at the surgical center Tuesday because he was accompanying his son, who was having some tests run.

Karen Bobo is a Good Shepherd Medical Center nurse who was injured in the stabbings. Karen's husband, Randy, says Karen is now home recovering. He says she was stabbed in upper back and shoulder area. Randy adds that their family has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and are especially proud of the police response to Tuesday's tragedy. The Bobo family is asking people to keep all of the victims in their prayers, including the suspect's family.

Wednesday, many people on social media came together to remember Gail Sandidge, the nurse who was killed. Hospital staff, Gail's friends and family members are changing their facebook photos to an image of the Good Shepherd Medical Center logo, with Gail Sandidge's name written across it in pink. There have been numerous former patients of Gail's that have expressed what a great and caring nurse she was.

Good Shepherd Medical center says they will be holding a candlelight vigil on Monday. The entire community is invited to take part in that.
The vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, December 2nd in the medical plaza's main parking lot.
