Smith County Landmark Turns 100

A century's worth of memories and contributions to Smith County were marked Thursday in a special birthday celebration.
Members of the Smith County Historical Cociety celebrated the 100th birthday of the Carnegie Library building with a symbolic ribbon cutting.
Officials say the building is the oldest freestanding public building in the city of Tyler.
Thursday's ribbon cutting also launched the Historical Society's fundraising campaign.
The society is trying to raise a half million dollars to renovate the Carnegie Library and preserve some of its archives.
