An East Texas superintendent was honored Tuesday night for the outstanding job she has done as an administrator in Hudson. Mary Ann Whiteker was presented the region seven superintendent of the year award during a regular meeting.
Elizabeth Abernathy of region seven esc presented Whiteker with the aware. She was recognized for her strong leadership and meeting the needs of her students in Hudson.
Whiteker was nominated and judged out of 106 independent school districts in the region for the award.
"It is truly an honor to be recognized in your area as superintendent of the year, and I'm so appreciative of my board for nominating me," Whiteker said. "They are very, very pleased with the new vision for public education in Texas. They have been so supportive of allowing me to promote that vision throughout the state. Hopefully it is a way to move our schools away from a test driven system to one that is truly preparing students for the 21st century."
This is Whitkekers 19th year as the Hudson ISD superintendent, and this is the first time she has received the superintendent of the year award.
