Angelina College's Community Services program blossoms with hundreds of new enrollments

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Angelina College's Community Services program has seen a significant growth this past year based on findings in an annual report given to the Board of Trustees earlier this month.

Vice President Frederick Kanke says the division used to only offer night classes and special interest course and has now grown exponentially to include 30 agencies for continuing education, especially for those looking to get certifications and licenses.

"This past year we saw a head count increase of about three percent and then enrollments were more than that because some people take more than one course and then the enrollments increased actually six percent over the previous year," Kanke said.

The three programs that have grown the most this year are child development, health occupations and the police academy.

"I go down the highway and I see those guys working and it just makes me feel good that they were able to do their training here and stay within this region and help out the community," said Marcelo Rosario, the In Service Training Specialist for the Angelina College Police Academy.

The community services had a little more than 900 enrollments in the Police Academy this past year, which is double than last year's total.
