TRINITY, TX (KTRE) -

Trinity Police officers arrested a 15-year-old boy on a felony firearm charge Tuesday morning. The teen allegedly displayed a small, silver pistol at a football game.

"Today, the Trinity Police Department arrested a student, who was not on campus, for possession of a firearm during an extra-curricular event," said Dave Plymale, the Trinity Independent School District superintendent. "School administrators were made aware of this yesterday and took appropriate action.

According to Trinity Police Chief Steve Jones, the teens' mother brought him to the Trinity Police Department Tuesday. He was charged with unlawfully possessing a gun in a weapon-free zone.

The teen, who was not a Trinity ISD student when the incident occurred, has begun the juvenile detention process. He will have to face a district judge at a later date.

Jones said they had several eyewitnesses that said the teen, a 15-year-old white male, brought the gun to the game. In addition, the teen allegedly admitted to bringing the weapon.

There was another report that the boy brought the same gun to school once he became a student at Trinity High School, Jones said. However, he said they were not able to find any conclusive evidence to prove that the report was true

"We appreciate the cooperation of the Trinity Police Department and quick action by THS administrators to maintain the safety of our schools."
