This recipe is a great one to have on hand for holiday get-togethers, and is also an easy way to use up leftover turkey or chicken!
Mama Steph's Turkey-crescent squares
2 tubes crescent roll dough
1 cup chopped celery
1/2-3/4 cup chopped onion
2 TBS olive oil
2 -3 cups shredded cooked turkey
8 oz. pkg cream cheese (best to use at room temperature)
salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp ground sage
1 tsp minced garlic
1 cup dried cranberries, chopped
Unroll one tube of crescent roll dough and press into small baking sheet, pressing together at creases until you have a solid sheet of dough.
Saute the celery and onion in the olive oil in a large frying pan or skillet. When onions are translucent, add the turkey, sage, and garlic, and allow to warm for a few minutes over medium heat.
Add the cream cheese, and stir until melted.
Add the dried cranberries.
Spread the turkey mixture over the dough in the pan, leaving about a one-inch border around the sides.
Unroll the second roll of dough, then gently press the dough (while it is still cold) together into a sheet on a pastry board. Transfer to pan, covering the turkey mixture. (I had a few gaps still, but it worked out fine.)
Press dough around outside edges to seal.
Bake at 375 for approximately 20 minutes, until top is golden brown.
Cool for about 10 minutes. Cut into squares while still warm.
