Sentencings scheduled for 3 of 15 identity theft ring suspects

Posted: Updated:
SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

About a dozen defendants in a Tyler identity theft ring were in court Monday morning, only to have their hearings rescheduled.

In May, Tyler Police released the names of 21 suspects accused of stealing more than $24,000 from 45 victims. Demanciar Nelson and Kimberly Stewart are expected to enter pleas and be sentenced later this week. Derrick Griffith is expected to plea in early December.

Three members of the alleged theft ring have already been sentenced. Those people are Christopher Pipkins, Shavonda Jones and Kendallyn Adams. They received punishments ranging from 10 years community supervision to 25 years in prison.

There are still 15 more pending cases in this large identity theft ring. The majority of the defendants are expected to take plea agreements. However, the specifics of many of those deals haven't been finalized.
