SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man was arrested Saturday night after officials say he caused a multi-vehicle accident, then assaulted a firefighter responding to the scene, all while he was intoxicated.

DPS tells us that 33-year-old Jason Horton of Van was driving his white truck when he caused an accident with another vehicle. Horton's truck rolled over as a result of the accident.

Lindale Fire crews responded to the scene and during this process, Horton punched one of the firefighters.

Horton was transported and booked into the Smith County Jail and is charged with driving while intoxicated and assault on a public servant.

His bond was set at 3-thousand dollars. Records indicate Horton was released just after 5pm Sunday evening.

Officials have added that there were some minor injuries to passengers and drivers in both of the vehicles involved in this accident.
