The Darton State Cavaliers baseball program continue to place players in four year programs.
Five Cavaliers signed with university programs Wednesday, making it nearly twenty in the last three years.
Brandon Goldsmith, John Harman, Ventavis Jerger, Payton Mann, and Hill Thomas all signed on the dotted line this afternoon.
Goldsmith, a RHP from Hamilton, and Mann, a catcher from Tifton, are both headed to the University of West Georgia.
Jerger is headed home to Tallahassee. The speedy shortstop signed with the Florida A&M Rattlers.
Thomas is staying in southwest Georgia, signing with Georgia Southwestern. The Early County product signed as a catcher.
Harman is joining fellow teammate Cody Wofford at Western Kentucky. The lefty from Carrollton finished second in the GCAA with seven wins in 2013.
"It says something about what these guys are about," says Cavaliers head coach Scot Hemmings. "These are some special kids. These are the kinds of guys you hope your sons grow up to be."
The Darton program continues to send players to the next level, something Hemmings says makes bringing in more talent easier.
"When you can sell 80 something wins in the past two years, almost 20 four year commitments, that makes life a lot easier," laughs Hemmings.
All five players credit their head coach and assistants for their success, and for building the program to it's place among the junior college elite.
"They're a special group of coaches," says the GSW-bound Thomas. "They recruit players who they expect greatness from, and that's what we want to do. We want to be great."
"Every guy that comes here and steps on the field is ready to play and get after it," says Jerger.
As common as these have become for the Cavs' program, this signing day was special for Hemmings.
Many of these five highlighted his first full recruiting class as Darton's head coach.
"I mean John Harman's our first signee in that class," Hemmings says, getting emotional. "Yeah it is."
All five will play their final year with the Cavs in 2014. Hemmings says a few more players should sign before the season is over.
