(KLTV) -

The holiday season is a time for spreading love to those around us and those who may be thousands of miles away. Each year, thousands of service men and women welcome a little piece of home in the form of a holiday greeting. The American Red Cross collects cards from October to early December to distribute to our service members. The cards are then taken to military installations and veteran hospitals across the globe.

Sending a card is easy! All holiday greetings should be addressed and sent to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes

P.O. Box 5456

Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

Not sure how to get started? Here are a few greeting guidelines to follow from the American Red Cross:

  • Ensure that all cards are signed
  • Use generic salutations such as "Dear Service Member".
  • Only cards are being accepted. Do not send or include letters.
  • Do not include email or home addresses on the cards.
  • Please refrain from choosing cards with glitter or using loose glitter as it can aggravate health issues of ill and injured warriors.
  • If you are mailing a large quantity of cards, please bundle them and place them in large mailing envelopes or flat rate postal shipping boxes.

The deadline for having all cards mailed is December 6!
