Gregg Co. residents temporarily evacuated after natural gas leak

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

The Gregg County Sheriff's Office tells us evacuation orders have been lifted in Longview after a natural gas leak.

Around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, a car hit a gas meter at a home in the Lakeport area off Highway 322 in Longview. The accident started a natural gas leak that forced authorities to evacuate the area within a one mile radius.

Residents were out of their homes for about three hours while the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, DPS and Lakeport City Police ensured the gas was cut off and the vehicle was removed. No word yet on if any citations were issued for the accident.

Highway 322 was shut down in both directions, but was reopened around 3:15 a.m. on Monday.
