ETX family returns from football game, finds house on fire

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Smith County officials are still trying to determine what started a fire that gutted an East Texas home Thursday night.

The fire was reported just after 6 o'clock in the 21,000 block of Highway 135, about a mile outside of Troup.

The Smith County Fire Marshal says the owner of the home was at a football game. He says when she got home her house was on fire.

Multiple fire departments responded, including crews from Whitehouse and Troup.

Firefighters say the house is still standing but it's not clear if it will be salvageable.

No one was home when the fire started.
