John Tyler and Whitehouse put on a show in 2012.
"There were so many great players on the field that day," said Whitehouse quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
"It was the best game I've been apart of," sad John Tyler linebacker Malik Hubbard. "Very exciting from the first quarter to the fourth."
With a district title on the line, the two East Texas powers did not disappoint.
Whitehouse took an early 24 to 0 lead. But John Tyler rallied to win one of the most memorable games of the year, 45 to 38.
"At halftime we had our heads down," said John Tyler junior Nick Cain. "Our coaches were like, 'We got this,' and we kept on fighting."
It's a loss that still sticks with Patrick Mahomes.
"Having a competitive family and knowing all the JT people, 'They are like you almost had it, but you're not on our level yet,'" said Mahomes.
One year later, The Lions and Wildcats are set to meet in the season finale. Once again it's for the 16-4A district championship.
"We're still the defending champs so we aren't worried about it," said Cain. "They have to come take from us."
Mahomes says he's ready for the challenge.
"We expect to beat them this year and show them up and show we are real this year and will be for real the next few years," said Mahomes.
