HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama doesn't want the title of being one of the top ten states in the country where people are most likely to smoke themselves to death.

The Scathing Report is based on 2011 numbers from the CDC. The number of adult smokers is still among the highest in the country.

Officials say more folks aren't picking up the habit, but they just simply aren't quitting as fast as smokers in other states are.

Alabama has one of the lowest cigarette taxes in the country, doctors say raising it could help.
