An East Texas jury found 50-year-old Andrew Martin Shelton guilty for his involvement in a 2011 hit and run fatality. He has now been sentenced to seven years in prison.

On July 22, 2011, 31-year-old Brian Scott Carr was riding his bicycle along Rice Road in Liberty City when he was hit by a white van. Carr, who was born with Down syndrome, died two weeks after the incident but was able to describe Shelton and the white van he was driving before he died.

Carr told investigators that the driver of the van stopped, approached him as he laid on the ground and then fled the scene.

After he was sentenced, Shelton heard from Carr's family in victim impact statements but instead of facing the family, he turned his back.
