Latest Crash Test Ratings

Side airbags are supposed to protect drivers and passengers in side impact crashes, but in the latest round of crash tests, some midsize cars with side impact airbags didn't perform as well as you'd expect.

The Jaguar X Type had the worst score of the cars tested receiving a marginal rating. The Volvo S40, Mercedes C Class and Saab 9-5 only did slightly better with acceptable ratings.

Among more inexpensive cars, Mitsubishi added side impact airbags to its Galant model, bringing its rating up this year from poor to good.
