Kudos to Tyler Independent School District for undertaking the initiative of strategic planning. The first step in the process, and arguably the most important, is an on-line survey that anyone in the community including, parents, teachers and others can take in giving an opinion on where TISD currently is and where it needs to go.
Surveys like this can be very informative and the district needs to take the recommendations seriously. The major points become strategic initiatives and teams are formed to answer questions created by the initiatives. In fact, this exercise is needed in just about every organization and more school districts need to watch TISD and learn from the process.
The goal, ultimately, is to improve the school system and with a good participation in the survey, real, tangible issues should rise to the surface. So, as a community, Tyler area residents and others touched by TISD need to complete the on-line survey which takes about ten minutes. It is a worthwhile investment in our children's future but it is only the first step in improving the district. We have a link to the survey on our website – KLTV.com. Forward thinking is the only way to truly improve a school district and being open to input and criticism on district issues starts the improvement process and makes for a Better East Texas.
