Open house to benefit Keith Maupin's home renovation

CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A man who has dedicated his life to supporting our troops is getting some big help from the community.

An open house will be held on Sunday to raise additional money needed to renovate the home and non-profit headquarters of Keith Maupin. Dozens of friends, volunteers and business donors recently surprised Maupin by launching a makeover of his home in Clermont County

The project began after some realized that Maupin had been letting some things go to focus on his non-profit.

"Everybody's a volunteer including myself. I mean we don't do this to be paid. We do this because we appreciate the guys serving in harms way," said Maupin.

The Yellow Ribbon Support Center is a non-profit founded by Keith Maupin that sends thousands of care packages to troops serving overseas.

Maupin's son, Staff Sergeant Matt Maupin, went missing about a decade ago. Maupin was captured in a convoy ambush by Iraqi insurgents in 2004 and later killed.

Maupin says rent at the former location was becoming too high, so he plans to move the center to his own garage. As a result, the money they're going to save can be used to send more care packages abroad.

"To me it's like one more less worry, I mean, we were paying 800 and they want 2,654. Them mission's going to continue, you know, for here they can't tell me I got to move," said Maupin.

The open house begins at 1:00 p.m. Maupin's home and the Yellow Ribbon Support Center is located at 4326 Mt Carmel-Tobasco Road.
